Defining Identity Beyond Performance

I want to keep going with identity, and I have a destination in mind if you will stick with me. I was looking up the definition of identity, and the Cambridge dictionary had the word identity and with this in parenthesis, "Who You Are". Is my work who I am? If I have a bad day at the office, does that define who I am? Am I a different person at the office than I am at home? If I fail a test, it doesn't make me a failure or if my business deal doesn't go through, it doesn't make me a failure, because I do not define myself by my performance. I have a deeper identity.
